Libra-net (14): Ten years
This summer we celebrated our ten-year anniversary. This autumn we are planning the second Science for Kids conference, and we are asking for your support!
This summer KANTAROT celebrated its ten-year anniversary. What started out as a blog to cure its author’s writer’s block is now a two-year old foundation that promotes science, culture and mental fitness. If you are curious about our beginnings here is a Google-translated version of the Macedonian post:
The S(c)iesta community organized its annual gettogether in Ohrid. Our host Panche Naumov welcomed us in his Elshani villa with a tasty buffet and a breathtaking sunset. Scientists and enterpreneurs from the US, Canada, Europe and the Emirates joined the event, including the rector, vice-rector and secretary of the University Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje. We are looking forward to a continuing collaboration with the University’s Center for Advanced Interdisciplinary Research.
We are getting ready for another season of the S(c)iesta meetups. This time we will be joining forces with partners at Montreal Polytechnique and the University Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, and we will kick things off with a series of lectures on meta-science. Our first guests are Matt Clancy and Stuart Buck, who will be talking about science policy and science funding. If you are not familiar with Matt and Stuart’s work, we highly recommend their newsletters, the Good Science Project and New Things Under the Sun. Join us on Thursday (September 14) at 9:30am EST (3:30pm Macedonian time), below is a registration link (closes on Wednesday at midnight EST):
Following the success of our science fantasy drawing contest (over 100 submissions received), we are announcing its sequel. This time we are asking for digital artwork, and the announcement can be found at the following link. The best submissions from each contest will be part of the science fantasy art exhibit that will take place during the upcoming Science for Kids conference.
Finally, we are thrilled to announce the second edition of the Science for Kids conference! It will take place on October 7 in the foyer of NOVA high school, more information is coming soon. For now, we would like to ask you to donate and support the organization of the conference. We will have exciting speakers, fun awards, mind-bending optical illusions and a very mathematical game show. Bring your kids and tell your friends!
